According to the invention, the method of making a contact layer on a planar solid oxide fuel cell on the cathode side of a bipolar plate is implemented through depositing a coating of a metal oxide. A layer of indium oxide is formed when the solid oxide fuel cell is rising to power. The indium oxide layer is formed in an air stream at 200C5% temperature. Thermal stabilisation is then carried out for 5060 minutes, as well as thermocycling at a rate of 80100C in the range of 450150C, maintaining a high temperature value for 6070 minutes and a low temperature value for 3040 minutes.
