PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the new subject compound obtained by ester-bonding vanillyl alcohol with a branched (un)saturated fatty acid, having no sharp taste and cytotoxicity, manifesting immunoactivative activities, energy metabolism- activating activities, fatigue-resistant activities or the like and useful as a food additive and a pharmaceutical active principle. SOLUTION: This new compound is the one of formulas I [(n) is, for example, 3-5] or II, e.g. 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzyl(E)-8-methyl-6-nonenoate. The exemplified compound is obtained by freeze-drying a fruit of 'CH-19AMA' which is a species of Capsicum annuum L. having no sharp taste, removing seeds and a calyx, extracting the removed residue with ethyl acetate, distilling the obtained ethyl acetate extract under a reduced pressure to distilling off the ethyl acetate and to obtain an oleoresin, subjecting the obtained oleoresin to a chromatography to separate and purify the objective compound. |
