PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject amides by a catalytic amount of an asymmetric source in a high catalytic efficiency by using a readily handleable reducing agent, by reacting aβ-disubstituted-α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid amides with a hydride reagent in the presence of an optically active metal compound. SOLUTION: Bateβ-disubstituted-α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid amides [e.g. a compounds of formula I (R<6> and R<7> are each a halogen or the like; R<8> to R<10> are each H, a halogen or the like), to be concrete, N-methyl-N- phenyl-3-phenyl-2-butanoic acid amide or the like] is reacted with a hydride reagent (a metal hydride or the like) in the presence of an optically active metal compound preferably an optically active cobalt (II) complex represented by a compound of formula II [R<1> and R<2> are mutually different and each H, a (substituted) alkyl or a (substituted) aryl; R<3> to R<5> are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl or the liek] (e.g. a compound of formula III)} is reacted with a hydride reagent (a metal hydride or the like) preferably in the presence of an alcohol compound and a carboxylic acid compound. |
