摘要 Disclosed is a membrane electrode assembly which enables to improve sealing reliability, mechanical strength and handling properties of a solid polymer fuel cell. Specifically disclosed is a membrane electrode assembly comprising a membrane electrode subassembly, wherein an electrode layer and a gas diffusion layer are arranged on both sides of a polymer electrolyte membrane, and a resin frame so arranged as to surround the entire periphery of the electrolyte membrane and at least a part of the periphery of the gas diffusion layer on the electrolyte membrane side. The gas diffusion layer and the electrode layer on one side is arranged on the electrolyte membrane in such a manner that a part of the electrolyte membrane surface remains uncovered, meanwhile the gas diffusion layer on the other side is arranged on the electrolyte membrane in such a manner that it extends to the entire periphery of the electrolyte membrane. The resin frame is fixed to at least a part of the uncovered part of the electrolyte membrane surface.
