A support device positionable by wedging between facing surfaces such as two walls or a floor and ceiling comprises an elongate body 12,13,14 which may be an adjustable spring-loaded telescopic curtain rod or a shelf, having a surface-contacting foot 18,19 at each end. The foot is linked to the body such that a relative displacement between the body and foot in a direction transverse to the body produces movement of the foot in a direction parallel to the body. As shown, balls 44,47 contact curved surfaces 45 whereby transverse movement of the body forces the feet outwards. Trigger 34 is associated with levers and springs which allow the length of the body to be telescopically adjusted before mounting. |
