The invention relates to a method and a device for determining the total organic carbon content in liquids, especially ultra-pure water, according to which a sample of the liquid to be tested is introduced into a reaction chamber (1) and statically treated separately from the liquid with a view to oxidating the carbon essentially into carbon dioxide. After oxidation of the carbon the sample is transferred by means of liquid which enters the reaction chamber (1) from the outside into a measuring cell (3) connected to the reaction chamber (1). The carbon dioxide concentration of the liquid, which is proportional to its carbon content, is dynamically measured in the measuring cell (3) as the liquid passes through the measuring cell (3).
