The torque at the drive motor is proportional to the weight of the load, the motor current is proportional to the torque, and the weight of the load is calculated from the current value. The method involves measuring a weight of loads in a lift device (2) with a conveyer belt (5), a lift gearing (7), and a synchronous drive motor (8), whereby the load (3) is moved during lifting in a vertical direction, and a torque is caused at the drive motor. The drive motor is supplied with current by a motor control (9) which submits values of the motor current to a machine control (10) which operates actuators of the entire installation (1). The torque at the drive motor is proportional to the weight of the load, the motor current is proportional to the torque, and the weight of the load is calculated from the current value.
