Utilization of water cooling jacket steam from a stationary bed carbonaceous material pressure gasifier

Water cooling jacket steam from a stationary bed pressure gasifier is used either for pressure equalization purposes or, during reactor depressurization, as reactor flushing steam. A method of utilizing the water cooling jacket steam from a stationary bed pressure gasifier comprises feeding all the steam to a high pressure steam collector and then either: (a) supplying the steam via a valve-free pressure equalization line directly to the gasification medium before entry into the reactor, to effect pressure equalization between the reactor water jacket, the collector and the reactor interior directly at the lower part of the reactor interior; or (b) after stopping the gasification medium supply for reactor depressurization, supplying all the jacket steam as flushing steam to the reactor.
