The LED encapsulation is of facetted structure. Alternatively it can be in the form of stacked truncated cones with ever increasing inclination, or of polygonal truncated pyramids, also with ever increasing inclinations.The edge points of the encapsulation lie on a hemispherical surface, or on a paraboloidal surface. The encapsulation may be symmetrical to the optical axis. An Independent claim specifies the mfg. process.
