The apparatus has an adhesive applicator unit (11) situated after a stapling unit. The applicator unit has a pair of rollers consisting of a top back-up roller (21) and a bottom adhesive-applicator roller (16). The speed of the stacked sheets (1') running through the pair of rollers is matched. An annular groove (17) extends in the alignment of the stitched seam (8) of the stitched stack of sheets traveling through the rollers. A discharge nozzle (15a) of an adhesive feed pipe (15) opens into the entry side of the groove at some distance from the gap between the rollers. The ultraviolet drying part is positioned next to the adhesive applicator unit for drying the anaerobic adhesive (14) applied to the stack of sheets near the stitched seam. The stack of double sheets is placed by a thread-stitching machine and combined by a thread stitching machine. A bottom binding grips the stack from underneath. The double stack plus binding is folded along the stitched seam.
