The invention relates to a milling separator for milling and separating breakable material comprising a separator housing and rotating hollow shafts which are arranged in a parallel manner therein and which are arranged in an essentially horizontal manner in an operating position. The milling separator also has axially interspaced separation disks which are arranged on said hollow shafts in a rotationally fixed manner. In addition, the milling separator has breaking elements which are also arranged in a rotationally fixed manner. The aim of the invention is to increase the lifetime of the milling separator. To this end, the hollow shafts (1, 15) are each held between two tension plates (4) arranged on the front faces of said shafts. The tension plates are drawn toward one another by a tie rod (5) which is axially arranged in the hollow shaft (1, 15) while being subjected to a considerable pressure exerted by said hollow shaft (1, 15). In addition, the hollow shafts (1, 15) can be made up of individual shaft sections (1a) between which the separation disks (2; 16; 19; 20) are held by means of a press fit.
