The humidifier for the air to be inhaled during artificial respiration has a dosing unit (3,10). The dosing unit (3,10) moistens the air to a given relative humidity at a given air temperature by a timed water delivery according to the volume of inhalation air passed through the evaporator (4). The evaporator (4) is structured to prepare steam at a temperature of /-134 deg C, to be mixed with the inhalation air and also heat it to the required air temp. for inhalation. The evaporator (4) has an enclosed interior between the entry (E) and outlet (A), filled wholly or partially with a porous sintered material (6) or copper wool. A thermal insulation (8) is between the evaporator outlet (A) and the inhalation air channel (5). The pump (3,10), forming the dosing unit, reverses the flow of a given vol. of water from the evaporator (4) during breaks in the inhalation air flow. The water delivery into the evaporator (4) is accelerated at the start of the air flow. The pump is a hose pump (3,10) with an adjustable running speed. The flexible hose has one end connected to a sterile water reservoir (1) and the other end is linked to the entry (E) into the evaporator (4). The control system (11) operates the dosing pump (3,10) and the heater (7) for the evaporator (4) to meet the nominal values for the inhalation air temperature or relative air humidity according to the signals corresponding to actual values. A sensor (91) registers the actual inhalation air temp., and a further sensor (9) monitors the actual inhalation air humidity, both linked to the control (11). The control adjusts the fed water vol. (MD) per time unit, on a deviation of the measured actual air temp. (TLi) from the nominal air temperature (TLs) through the expression MD(nominal)=MD(actual) /* (TLs-TO)/*(TD-TLi) // (TD-TLs) /* (TLi-TO) where TO is the actual temperature before humidifying, and TD the steam temperature known by the control (1). |
