The image reproduction unit has an image screen (48) and an image separation device on the viewer side of the screen, provided by a grid plate (52) with imaging element strips for generating partial stereo images for the left and right eye of the viewer. The image separating device can be switched between auto-stereoscopic and monoscopic image display modes, by altering its position in front of the screen.
