The deformation component(4) consists of a material with a rigidity which depends upon the deformation speed during absorption of the impact energy, the rigidity increasing with the deformation speed. The deformation component consists of porous material which may be an open pore foam. The deformation component is integrated into the seat and may extend at right angles to the direction of travel or parallel to it, and may be fitted in the seat cushion(2), backrest(3) or headrest.
