The ventilator (10) has a radial fan (12), especially a double radial fan, whose air outlet is flange-mounted to a roof opening. The suction chamber of the fan is formed by the space between the roof (14) skin and the cowl. The fan axis extends in the direction of travel (22) of the vehicle. The air inlet for the fan is a rearward lateral gap between the roof skin and the cowl. A manually actuated closure device attached to the roof activates a microswitch to switch off the fan motor.
