<p>An apparatus for protecting a crew member of an automobile when a collision of a side portion thereof occurs, comprising an air bag (8), a bottom surface (13) of which contacts an upper surface (5) of an arm rest (6) when the air bag (8) is expanded forward, whereby an upward reaction force (F) can be exerted from the upper surface (5) of the arm rest (6) on the air bag (8) pressed down when it is expanded, to enable an expansion speed of the air bag (8) to be improved. <IMAGE></p> |
