A method of joining first (5) and second (8) parts together, the second part carrying at least one projection (10) for penetration of the first part. The method is preferably used for securing a block (5) made of cellular or fibrous material such as polyurethane to a base plate (8) made of a suitable thermoplastic material. The base plate (8) carries one or more projecting formations (10), shown as individual pointed formations. The two parts (5,8) are secured together by bringing them into contact so that the formations (10) pierce the block (5) and become at least partially positioned between adjacent fibres (6). Heat may be applied so as partially to soften the formations (10) prior to bringing the block (5) and the base (8) together. |
