Cordierite honeycomb monolith comprises cordierite produced by sintering kaolinite with a Hinckley crystallinity number of 0.5 or more. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the cordierite honeycomb monolith, comprising mixing a kaolin-containing cordierite material, forming the mixed material into a honeycomb and sintering the honeycomb, where the kaolin contains kaolinite with a Hinckley crystallinity number of 0.5 or more.
