PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To early take measures against an ink shortage, etc., by checking a temperature of a print head, determining a state of a print cartridge on the basis of the detected temperature and giving an alarm in the case when an effective life of the cartridge terminates or when it is detected that the effective life of the cartridge is going to terminate. SOLUTION: In a first operation mode of a printer 100, ink is jetted from a head of a print cartridge 5 during a high-density print band or a service routine, and then an initial temperature Tf of the head is checked and compared with a maximum initial temperature Tfmax. When Tf>Tfmax is held, an alarm on a state of the print cartridge 5 is sent out. When Tf<Tfmax is held, a remaining life of the cartridge 5 is displayed at a display 49. On the other hand, in a second operation mode, ink is jetted, and then a final temperature Te is checked a fixed time later and compared with a maximum final temperature Temax. When Te>Temax, an alarm is generated. |
