PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high protonating speed in a method for thermosensitive dye transferring using a deprotonated cationic dye. SOLUTION: The method for forming a dye transfer image comprises (a) a step of image-like heating a dye donor element of a deprotonated cationic dye becoming a cationic dye having an N-H group forming a part of a conjugate at the time of deprotonating a dye in the element having a dye layer for dispersing the dye in a polymer binder on a support, (b) a step of image-like transferring the dye to a dye image acceptor layer of the dye acceptor element containing an acid part for re-protonating the deprotonated cationic dye, and (c) a step of exposing the element with a heat from a heat source.
