NONSINTERED POSITIVE ELECTRODE FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY AND ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery, high in energy density, excellent in an over-discharge resisting characteristic, and small in capacity reduction in the event of repeated charging/discharging cycles at a high temperature. SOLUTION: A positive electrode is used in which spherical nickel hydroxide solid solution particles having a mean particle size of 5 to 20 μm and a cobalt- oxide electroconductive agent mainly composed of γ-oxy cobalt hydroxide having a mean particle size <=1 μm and having the number of cobalt value >3.0, are held on an foamed nickel substrate having the number of pores of 80 to 160 pores/inch (PPI2 D) and having a skeleton thikness of 30 to 60 μm so that the total occupying ratio of the spherical nickel hydroxide solid solution particles and of the cobalt-oxide electroconductive agent relative to the whole body of an electrode plate ranges from 75 to 85 vol.%.
