PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device hardly causing a 'chromato- phenomenon', improved in display quality excellent in wide visual field angle characteristics and capable of keeping a cell thickness constant. SOLUTION: Glass substrates 1 and 2 are oppositely disposed holding a liquid crystal layer 9 there between and a columnar spacer 7 is provided so as to reach both substrates 1 and 2 on a prescribed part in the liquid crystal layer 9 between both substrates 1 and 2. On the inner surface on the side of the liquid crystal layer 9 of the glass substrate 2, a signal electrode 4 in a stripe shape and a vertically aligned layer 5a are formed. On the inner surface on the side of the liquid crystal layer 9 of the glass substrate 1, the signal electrode 3 is formed in the stripe shape in the state of crossing with the signal electrode 4 and a picture element is constituted at the crossing part of the signal electrode 3 and the signal electrode 4. The columnar spacer 7 is arranged at a square equivalent to the four corners of the picture element and the vertically aligned layer 5b is formed on the side face of the columnar spacer 7 and the glass substrate 1. |
