Card Identification (C-ID) codes and Personal Identity (P-ID) codes are entered into memory (1) via a miniature keypad (4). The card reader (6) reads data held on the magnetic strips (8,10) or chip (9) of the preferred card (7). The PIN (P-ID) appropriate to that card is displayed only when a further PIN code is inserted in the second memory (2). Alternatively, a fingerprint scanner could be used.
