PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a sedimented silicate providing a high matted effect to a coating material, and further providing good surface smoothness and fluidity by specifying a BET surface area, a DBP value, a compacted weight, a grind meter value and a particle distribution coefficient. SOLUTION: This sedimented silicate has 400-600 m<2> /g BET surface area by DIN 66131, 300-360 g/100 g DBP value by DIN 53601, 70-140 g/l compacted weight by DIN 53914, 15-50μm grind meter value by ISO 1524 and <1.0 particle size distribution coefficient I measured by using Malvern particle size distribution coefficient I=d90 -d10 /2d50 . The production of the sedimented silicate is preferably carried out by using a sieving mill or a fluidized bed-reflected light mill. The sieving can be carried out after milling to provide prescribed particle fragments. The sedimented silicate can be used as a milled and polyethylene wax-coated sedimented silicate obtained by adding a polyethylene wax emulsion to the sedimented silicate and drying the silicate with the added polyethylene wax.
