The invention concerns a method for automatic adaptation of an injection engine (1) by a computer (21) connected to sensors (26, 28) supplying an engine filling parameter and to an oxygen probe (33) in the exhaust gases, which consists, at each adapting cycle, in defining a new line of control magnitude based on the filling parameter using new coefficients computed from the co-ordinates of 2 points whereto correspond corrected values of the control magnitude from a working line filtered and stored during the preceding cycle, one at least of said 2 points being previously acquired, then in adopting as new working line, a line intermediate between the new line and the previous working line. The invention is applicable to injection engine control.
