ACTIVE MATRIX SUBSTRATE AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY COMPRISING THE SAME

An active matrix substrate for a liquid crystal display, having active elements and address wires arranged in a matrix on an insulating substrate. The active elements and the address wires are covered with a transparent insulating film, and transparent electrodes for display are formed on the transparent insulating film. The transparent electrodes for display are connected to the active elements through contact holes formed in the transparent insulating film. The difference in refractive index between the transparent insulating film and an element insulating film provided under the transparent display electrodes and constituting part of the active elements and the difference in refractive index between the element insulating film and the insulating substrate are both below 0.2. Therefore the display quality is good.
