A storage container (13) for use in a refrigerator includes an open-topped box (14) having a top opening oriented upwardly and a forward opening (AO) oriented in a direction perpendicular to a plane of the top opening and communicated with the top opening. A movable hatch (17) is mounted on the box (14) for movement between lifted and lowered positions. This movable hatch (17) when in the lifted position closes the forward opening (AO) of the box (14).
