A filter insert cleaning lance (1) comprises a tubular section (2) and jet head (3) with separate radial outlets for compressed air (4) and water (5). The lance has two groups of compressed air outlets, one of which is located before that for water, and one after the water outlet. The air outlets are placed in a slotted ring around the lance head. Preferred Features: The diameter of the lance head is greatest at the compressed air outlet. The lance head largest diameter is fractionally smaller than the smallest inner diameter, of the inlet point of the filter insert at its narrowest point. The water pressure is 9-13 bar, preferably 11 bar and the air pressure is 5-9 bar, preferably 7 bar.
