The invention relates to a method for cooling a fully reacting mixture that is produced from waste and comprises a first constituent water and optionally carbon, metals and/or metal oxides, in addition to a second constituent that reacts with water from the first constant and contains free burnt lime and optionally carbon, metals and/or metal oxides in forms ranging from fine grains to powder, as well as other substances. Said mixture is cooled to a temperature of less than 40 DEG C by means of multiple recirculation and ventilation before substantial reactivity is reduced.
