VORTEX VALVES

Disclosed is a vortex valve flow control (1, 21) comprising a vortex chamber (3) having an inlet (4) for introducing a liquid into the vortex chamber (3) in a manner to promote swirl and an outlet (8) in one axial end of the vortex chamber (3), characterised in that: the peripheral wall (10) of the vortex chamber which surrounds the longitudinal axis of the vortex chamber has a cylindrical cross section; and the distance between the end walls (11, 12) (measured at the axis of the flow control) of the vortex chamber (3) is not larger than the diameter of the vortex chamber. Also disclosed is a mounting means for mounting a vortex valve flow control (1, 21) in a drainage gully whereby the outlet (22) of the vortex valve (1, 21) communicates with the outlet (32) from the gully, comprising first (20) and second (30) elements, the two elements being shaped such that they are able to cooperate with each other in a substantially liquid tight manner.
