Disclosed is a method and apparatus for producing an object (2). The method comprises: providing a tool (10); positioning material (18) on a mould surface of the tool (10), thereby providing a first assembly (16); attaching temperature sensors (20) to the first assembly (16); heating the first assembly (16) while measuring temperatures using the sensors (20); using the temperature measurements, identifying regions of the first assembly (16) that experience different heat-up rates; thereafter, positioning further material (36) on the tool (10), thereby providing a second assembly (34); thermally insulating part of the second assembly (34) that corresponds to an identified region of the first assembly (16); and heating the second assembly (34). The thermal insulation is applied to the second assembly (34) such that the regions of the second assembly (34) that correspond to the identified regions of the first assembly (16) are thermally insulated to a different extent. |
