PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dry process image forming material having an excellent image preservable property after image formation and a dry process image forming method. SOLUTION: This dry process image forming material has a layer contg. microcapsules which contain at least a photosetting compd., photoinitiator and diazonium salt in their inner phase on a base. The material contains a basic component in the layer contg. these microcapsules or a layer adjacent to the layer contg. the microcapsules or contains a coupling component in the microcapsule inner phase or the layer contg. the microcapsules or the layer adjacent to the layer contg. the microcapsules. The dry process image forming method consists in subjecting the dry process image forming material to imagewise exposure, then pressurizing the entire part of the dry process image forming material to destroy the microcapsules imagewise to form a dyestuff image, then subsequently irradiating the material with light of a short wavelength, such as UV light, thereby photofixing the image.
