PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a high m.p. multiple metallic carbonitride material such as multiple tungsten molybdenum carbonitride giving a cemented carbide excellent in hardness and strength. SOLUTION: Multiple tungsten molybdenum carbonitride as a high m.p. multiple metallic carbonitride material is represented by the formula (Wm MOn ) (Cx Ny ), wherein (m) and (n) show the molar ratio between the metallic components, m+n=1, 0<m<1, (x) and (y) show the molar ratio between the nonmetallic components, x+y=1, x<=0.99, y>=0.01, the ratio (Z) of the number of mols of the nonmetallic components to that of the metallic components is >=0.10 and Z is calculated by the equation Z=[(carbon content) (wt.%)/12+(nitrogen content) (wt.%)/14]/ [100-(carbon content)-(nitrogen content)]/(184×m+96×n)}. The multiple tungsten molybdenum carbon nitride is synthesized from tungsten, molybdenum and carbon power under predetermined conditions.
