PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new semaphorin L (H-SemaL) and corresponding semaphorin in other species useful, for example, for regulation of immunological and inflammation systems by making the human semaphorin L include a specific domain structure. SOLUTION: This protein is obtained by including a characteristic Sema domain. The protein has an N-terminal signal peptide and an immunoglobulin- like domain and a membrane-penetrating domain in a C-terminal region. The protein is semaphorin L(Sema-L) and a derivative thereof. It is preferable that the amino acid sequence of human semaphorin L(H-Sema L) is as shown in the formula, and that semaphorin L is produced by culturing host cells transformed by a vector containing a nucleic acid sequence coding for semaphorin L (or a derivative thereof).
