PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery that has superior initial capacity and capacity retention rate and is superior in a cycle characteristic by mixing lithium hydroxide with a manganese compound selected from a group consisting of manganese dioxide and manganese carbonate, primary baking it at a specified temperature, cooling it to a temperature less than the specified temperature, fracturing it and thereafter, baking it at a specified temperature, and cleaning it. SOLUTION: Lithium hydroxide is mixed with a manganese compound, it is primary baked at a temperature in the range of 350-500 deg.C, cooled down to a temperature below 100 deg.C, fractured, and thereafter secondary baked at a temperature in the range of 600-800 deg.C and cleaned. A hydroxide represented by LiOH.H2 O is suitably used as the lithium hydrate used. Manganese dioxide or manganese carbonate is used as the manganese compound. The mixing of lithium hydrate with the manganese compound is normally performed by mixing them in such a way that sets the mol ratio of Li to Mn to be in the range of 0.95:2 to 1.20:2. The mean grain diameter of the fractured substance is normally 20-100 μm, preferably 40-80 μm. |
