PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease wetting of a slag and to improve durability by using a magnesia-carbonaceous aggregate containing carbon. SOLUTION: The magnesia - carbonaceous aggregate is produced, for example, by mixing magnesia of <=3 mm particle size, carbon of <=1 mm particle size and a resin as a binder, and granulating in a granulating machine into granules of about 8 mm diameter. As for the carbon, pitch, coke, carbon black and graphite can be used. As for the magnesia, seawater magnesia, electrofused magnesia and natural magnesia can be used. When the particle size of the magnesia is >=3 mm, the carbon can not be uniformly dispersed or mixed. By adjusting the particle size of the carbon to <=1 mm, good dispersion is obtd. By using the magnesia - carbonaceous aggregate above described, the production of a magnesia - carbon castable, especially having >10 wt.% carbon content is made easy. |
