PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of preventing the reduction in a lamp service life or the application of thermal stress on constituent parts with discharge lamp filaments being overheated or overcooled, when a discharge lamp of a similar outer form with a different rated output is connected. SOLUTION: In a lamp sort detection circuit 5, a current detection means 5a detects a filament current If of a discharge lamp La, and a voltage detection means 5b detects a filament voltage Vf of the discharge lamp La. A determination means 5c determines a filament resistance based on detected values of the filament current If and the filament voltage Vf, and detects the sort of the discharge lamp La based on the filament resistance. A control circuit 6 changes power to be supplied to the discharge lamp La, in accordance with the discharge lamp La connected to a stabilizer 1 based on result of detection by the lamp sort detection circuit 5. |
