FUEL ELEMENT HAVING FREE OF FUEL STEMS

The fuel element is designed for nuclear reactors of the WWERtype. It has a hexagonal shape and positions of the stems fittedon a regular hexagons between one central position (RO) in theaxis of the fuel element and its contour. The central position(RO) is occupied by a tube for instrumentation equipment, and allpositions of stems R1, R6 fitted around the central position (RO)are divided into two groups, the first group consisting of fuelstems containing fuel substance, and the second group beingoccupied by hollow tubes (P) having no fuel substance. Acombination is also possible where the first operational cycles ofthe fuel element out stems (B) remain idle in the hollow tubes (P)of the positions of the stems of the second group, and they areremoved in the last cycles of the fuel element.16 claims, 13 figures
