MOTION VECTOR DETECTION METHOD FOR MOVING IMAGE SIGNAL AND MOTION VECTOR DETECTION CIRCUIT IN INTER-FRAME ENCODING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance processing speed by reducing the amount of arithmetic operations in detecting a motion vector. SOLUTION: A retrieval circuit 100 compares the total sum of each pixel of an object block of a current frame with the total sum of each pixel of a reference block set to a preceding frame with an integer pixel accuracy to detect blocks having similar values. A retrieval circuit 200 sets a reference block around a block detected by the preceding retrieval with half pixel accuracy and obtains, e.g. an absolute difference value sum between each pixel of the reference block and each pixel of an object block and detects a block whose value is minimum. Based on the result, a motion vector arithmetic circuit 300 obtains a motion vector from a coordinate between the object block and a corresponding reference block.
