The toaster insert which is designed to fit on conventional electric toasters comprises a grid (3) rotatably mounted at one end inside a hood (2) so that the hood can be swivelled up and down at this end from an open to a closed position. At the bottom near an end wall (13) the two side walls (9, 10) of the hood (2) are provided with opposing bores (6) which receive the angled ends (5) of the outer base of the grid (3) whilst the free end of the latter extends out beyond the end of the hood (2) where it is provided with a handle (4). The top of the hood (2) is also provided with a carrying handle (15) so that when the bread is placed on the grid and the free end of the grid has locked into the hood, the integral unit can be carried and placed on top of the toaster. This design ensures an even warming through of the bread.
