CHIRAL SMECTIC LIQUID CRYSTAL MIXTURE CONTAINING COMPOUND WITH FLUORINATED SIDECHAIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferroelectric liquid crystal mixture suitable for improvement of a ferroelectric liquid crystal display, especially a ferroelectric liquid crystal(FLC) display operated in inverse mode (by using (π-Vmin) characteristic). SOLUTION: A novel chiral non-racemic tilted smectic liquid crystal mixture comprises (A) a mesogen with fluorocarbon sidechains, (B) a phenanthrene derivative, (C) a 2-fluoropyridine derivative, (D) a phenylene derivative, (E) a meta-substituted aromatic compound, (F) a (1,3,4-)thiadiazole and (G) a 4- cyanocyclohexyl. A ferroelectric liquid crystal display element contains said compound.
