PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing clear and safe water utilizable even for drinking water from natural water such as river water and lake water contg. a chromacity component and a turbidity component. SOLUTION: Natural water contg. a chromacity component and a turbidity component is filtered by the use of a porous membrane contg. >=0.1 mmol/g an ion-exchange group and having <=1μm pore diameter and >=10%β- cyclodextrin permeability. Consequently, the chromacity component and turbidity component are simultaneously removed from the natural water such as river water and lake water and the clear and safe water utilizable even for drinking water is produced with high efficiency.
