PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a sound volume level automatically so as not to be affected by surrounding noise in matching the environmental condition where the television receiver is installed. SOLUTION: A remote commander is provide with an optical transmission section 9 and a CPU 5 that compares the sound from a microphone 1 with data from a memory 6 storing in advance various noise data to provide a control signal denoting a proper sound volume. Then the CPU 5 compares an in-room dark noise in place of the sound from the microphone 1 with the data from the memory 6 so as to adjust a sound volume in response to the in-room environment and a sound volume at daytime/night and warns a fault on the occurrence of the fault in the room.
