A system and method for recording voice data to and reading voice data from a data storage device on an item of media including a housing, a controller and a data transfer unit. The housing includes a clamping mechanism adapted to receive and secure an item of media in a substantially fixed position relative to the housing. The item of media includes a data storage device. The controller is configured to process digitized data to generate data slices and to generate control signals. The controller is also configured to process the data slices to generate reconstructed digitized data. The data transfer unit is positioned within the housing and electrically connected to the controller. The data transfer unit is adapted to record the data slices on the data storage device in response to at least one of the control signals and to read the data slices from the data storage device in response to the control signals and to provide the data slices to the controller. |
