Method of reading forms

The scanning method uses an optical scanner for providing a an image data set for the scanned form which is entered in a memory before conversion into a text data set using a character identification programme. The text data set and the image data set can be displayed on a monitor screen for correction via a correction programme for eliminating unreadable or incorrectly read characters, with subsequent storage of the corrected text data. The image data is subjected to a pre-check before conversion into a text data set, the latter operation only performed when the pre-check is satisfactory.
