The invention relates to a method for the accelerated biodegradation of an organic matter. The matter to be degraded is held in an elongated stack and through the stack is blown a gas which is recycled in a substantially closed gas circulation. The gas to be recycled is refrigerated and the refrigerated gas is blown through the stack at such a blow rate that the stack temperature increases from within towards the surface of the stack.
