A centrifuge (12) for purifying a carrier liquid containing impurities, wherein the ions of the impurities are heavier than the ions of the carrier liquid, the ions of the carrier liquid and the contained impurities are electrically excited, thereby to weaken the electrochemical bonds therebetween, the centrifuge including a carrier liquid inlet (28) located along the rotational axis (16) for permitting the inflow of the carrier liquid containing impurities; a purified liquid outlet (30) located along the rotational axis, for permitting the outflow of the purified liquid; a generally circular peripheral conduit (20) mounted so its axis of symmetry coincides with the rotation axis (16), and arranged for rotation thereabout; overflow conduit (22) for permitting outflow of the carrier liquid from the contaminated liquid inlet port to the peripheral conduit (20), and return flow conduit (24) for permitting a return flow of the purified liquid from the peripheral conduit (20) to the purified liquid outlet port (30). |
