<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high density cultivation method of animal cells by which metabolic activities of the cultivated animal cells can be maintained in more suitable state, and which is useful for hybrid type artificial organs by maintaining the oxygen concentration of a medium at the outlet of a reactor so as to be within a prescribed region. SOLUTION: This method for high density cultivation of animal cells 8 comprising immobilizing animal cells 8 to a porous carrier 4, arranging the carrier 4 immobilizing the animal cells 8 in a reactor 3, introducing a medium 5 from an inlet of the reactor 3 to immerse the porous carrier 4 in the medium, discharging the medium 5 from an outlet of the reactor 3, and pouring the discharged medium 5 into the inlet of the reactor 3 is carried out by maintaining the oxygen concentration of the medium 5 at the outlet so as to be 204-969μM. Preferably, the medium 5 discharged from the outlet is exposed to a gas having 152-722 mmHg oxygen partial pressure, and the medium 5 in the reactor 3 is flowed at 5.4-10.8 cm/min linear velocity.</p> |
