PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure satisfactory joining in performing friction welding. SOLUTION: In the butt welding of hollow shape materials 31, 32, a projected part 37a, 38a is provided protruding outside the shape material and, with a rotary body inserted into this projected part 37a, 38a, friction welding is performed. A gap in the abutting part is filled with the metal of the projected part, so that satisfactory welding can be carried out. After the welding, the projected part 37a, 38a is ground, smoothing the outer face of the shape materials 31, 32. With the rotary body 50 situated on the extension within the thickness of a plate 36, the plate 36 serves as a supporting member, thereby preventing the deformation of the shape materials 31, 32. |
