PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make easily preferable carbonic ester production catalyst easy to separate after reaction and capable of attaining a high conversion rate and a high selection rate at the time of producing a carbonic ester by firing a specified basic layer compd. SOLUTION: A soln. (a) is prepd. by weighing and putting Mg (NO3 )2 . 6H2 O and Al(NO3 )3 .9H2 O in a conical flask, adding deioized water and dissolving the compds. in the water. A soln. (b) is prepd. by weighing and dissolving Na2 CO3 and NaOH in deionized water. The soln. (a) is slowly dropped into the soln. (b) under stirring, the liq. mixture is stirred at about 65 deg.C for a prescribed time and the resultant slurred crystals are subjected to suction filtration with an/absorption funnel and dried all night at 110 deg.C to obtain white powdery crystals of hydrotalcite. A basic layer compd. of the formula [M<2+> (1-x) .M<3+> x .(OH)2 ] [(x/n).A ) .mH2 O is obtd. using the hydrotalcite and its analogous compd. and then the obtd. compd. is fired.
